The American Association of Physicists in Medicine recently convened a panel of industry experts, devising a list of issues with the new quality metric. 

MedPAC members have highlighted the need to link physician pay increases with the Medicare Economic Index, a measure of practice cost inflation. 

Job-industry researchers created the list based on factors such as autonomy, social interaction, growth potential, and wages. 

The profession led the way with average hourly pay of about $281.27, based on answers from 2,653 rads across 78 departments. 

Docs in private practice earn median total compensation about 27% higher than academics in DR and 32% for IRs. 

All major disciplines across medical imaging and radiation therapy have recorded compensation increases over the last two years, according to ASRT. 

The reported median, 25th and 75th percentile compensation for IR faculty were consistently higher than DRs, 2017-2023 AAMC data show. 

The salary gap remains at about 6%, with male academic radiologists earning about $483,000 versus $455,000 for women, experts wrote in Radiology.
