Strategic Radiology expands to 25th state with addition of Alaska Imaging

Strategic Radiology—a coalition of independent imaging groups—is expanding into its 25th state with the addition of Alaska Imaging, leaders announced Wednesday.

Based in Anchorage, the state’s largest community, the 25-year-old practice employs 20 board-certified radiologists delivering diagnostic and interventional services. Alaska Imaging physicians are fellowship trained across all subspecialties, servicing seven facilities from Juneau to Fairbanks.

CEO Roseann Pickett said the practice seeks to learn from other like-minded radiology groups that have chosen to remain independent.

“This collaboration gives us access to shared resources and best practices that support our clinical mission while helping us maintain the autonomy and agility that comes with being wholly physician-owned,” Pickett said in a July 2 announcement

This marks the 44th practice to join Strategic Radiology, which was launched in 2009. Anchorage is home to almost 290,000 Alaskans, SR noted, and serves as the state’s healthcare hub, “where access to specialty imaging is critical across both urban and remote communities.” Facilities served in Anchorage include the 250-bed Alaska Regional Hospital, 182-bed Alaska Native Medical Center, Northern Lights Imaging, and the PET/CT Center of Alaska. The practice also serves the 125-bed Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer and the Valley Imaging Center in Wasilla.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alaska Imaging into Strategic Radiology,” SR CEO and Chair Scott Bundy, MD, who also works for member practice Radiology Associates of North Texas in Fort Worth, said in the announcement. “Their clinical quality, leadership, and strong regional presence make them a valuable addition. We look forward to working together to support the future of private practice radiology.”
