Only 7% of hospitals received five stars from new CMS rating system

The CMS rolled out new star ratings for over 3,500 hospitals this week based on consumer reviews, and only 7% received five-star ratings. Four- and three-star ratings, meanwhile, combined to make up 74% of the total ratings. Another 16% of hospitals received two stars, and 3%—101 hospitals total—received one star.

ACR and Alzheimer’s Association lead trial to inform Medicare PET brain amyloid imaging coverage

April 16, 2015 - A new four-year research study, with an estimated budget of $100 million, was announced April 16 by the Alzheimer's Association and the American College of Radiology (ACR). The Imaging Dementia - Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDEAS) Study will determine the clinical usefulness and value in diagnosing Alzheimer's and other dementias in certain situations of a brain positron emission tomography (PET) scan that detects a core feature of Alzheimer's disease.

CDS leads to reduction in CPTA imaging for pulmonary embolism

The use of evidence-based clinical decision support (CDS) results in a significant reduction in CT pulmonary angiographic imaging in patients suspected of having a pulmonary embolism, according to a study published online in Radiology.
