Strategic Radiology, an independent coalition of private imaging practices, has added an 80-physician new group member, deepening its presence in one Midwestern state.

Fort Wayne, Indiana-based Summit Radiology is the latest addition to the growing organization, joining two other members in the Hoosier State. The practice is the product of two organizations—Allen County Radiology Associates and CFB Radiology, with roots dating to the 1960s—merging in 1995, Strategic Radiology said Tuesday.

“Summit Radiology has established an impressive foothold in Indiana by providing excellent service and leveraging information technology,” Scott Bundy, MD, CEO and chair of Strategic Radiology, said in a Sept. 12 announcement. “We are excited about the opportunities to collaborate and innovate with this independent practice of like-minded radiologists and practice executives.”

Led by Daniel Branam, MD, Summit Radiology provides subspecialized reading services to 26 hospitals across Indiana. Its radiologists deliver the full spectrum of subspecialized services spanning musculoskeletal, neurological, interventional and abdominal care, among other categories. Fort Wayne is the second most populous state in Indiana, located about 18 miles west of the Ohio border and 50 miles south of Michigan.

Strategic Radiology now includes a total of 35 privately owned, independent practices representing 1,500-plus physicians hoping to gain the benefits of a large group without pursuing a merger deal. In the announcement, Branam cited reducing expenses as a key driver in the decision. Other member groups in the same state include Northwest Radiology in Indianapolis and Radiology Associates in Jeffersonville.
