Capitol Imaging Services expands in South Florida, acquiring 4 centers

Capitol Imaging Services is expanding in South Florida with the acquisition of four outpatient centers.

The private equity-backed, Houston-based radiology group is buying Impression Imaging for an undisclosed sum, the two announced Tuesday. Capitol said the move establishes a strong presence in the Sunshine State and “marks an important step” as the group expands into molecular imaging and theranostics.

Founded in 2012 by physicians, Impression Imaging operates Florida locations in the communities of Tamarac, Pembroke Pines, Boca Raton and Coral Springs.

“The addition of Impression Imaging to the Capitol Imaging Services network aligns perfectly with our mission to provide patients and physicians with the highest quality screening and advanced diagnostic imaging services,” John Stagg, CEO of Capitol Imaging, said in an announcement Oct. 20. “This acquisition expands our presence in Florida while strengthening our commitment to bringing cutting-edge imaging technology, precision diagnostics and greater patient access to every medical community we serve.”

As part of the transaction, radiologist Michael Fagien, MD—who co-founded Impression Imaging alongside his wife, Dr. Zakiya Fagien, and served as its chief medical officer—will continue as CMO of molecular imaging at Capitol. In the new role, he’ll help to guide the company’s expansion across nuclear medicine, theranostics and related clinical research. Along with PET/CT, Impression Imaging also provides MRI, CT and other nuclear medicine services, with expertise in oncologic, neurologic and cardiac care.

“As radiopharmaceuticals and theranostic therapies continue to expand, the Impression Imaging team and Drs. Fagien will advise CIS on opportunities across molecular diagnostics, radioligand therapy, and clinical research,” the announcement noted.

Capitol Imaging bills itself as one of the largest independent outpatient imaging center operators in the Southeastern U.S. It already delivers PET/CT services in markets such as Gainesville, Georgia; Alexandria and Lafayette, Louisiana; and Texarkana, Texas. Leaders hope the addition of Impression Imaging’s expertise will allow the radiology group to accelerate expansion in nuclear medicine, branching into other locations nationwide.

Capitol Imaging is a platform investment of the Clearview Capital Fund IV, a $550 million commitment secured in 2018. The company also previously acquired Houston MRI & Diagnostic Imaging and its seven centers in January 2025 and Houston Premier Radiology Center and Alliance MRI, a total of 10 more centers, in 2023. Most recently, Capitol expanded into its sixth state in June 2025 by buying Outpatient Imaging LLC and its nine centers in Georgia.

An analysis from Definitive Healthcare released in July labeled Capitol Imaging as one of the 10 largest imaging center operators in the U.S., with 56 locations at the time.
