Health system buys full ownership of imaging center jointly held by pioneering radiology group

A hospital system recently bought full stake in an imaging center it has jointly owned with a pioneer local imaging group, according to a report published Thursday.

Indiana University Health has purchased 100% control of the radiology facility located on Landmark Avenue in the community of Bloomington. The center had been a joint venture between IU and Southern Indiana Radiological Associates, whose offices also have been located on the same property.

A spokeswoman for Indiana’s largest network of physicians told the Times-Mail that IU now holds the “entirety of the ownership of the imaging center.” IU Health did not disclose how the sale came about, nor whether it was prompted by a radiologist’s retirement or other reason.

“We cannot comment on behalf of Southern Indiana Radiology Associates, but IU Health is pleased to continue providing our community with these important services,” Samantha Kirby, a communications consultant for the hospital system, told the newspaper.

Southern Indiana Radiological Associates’ roots date to the 1940s, with the practice incorporated under the SIRA name in 1964. It later moved into the new outpatient imaging facility in December 2000, where the practice has provided the full range of radiology services since.

IU Health has no plans to eliminate any imaging sites, Kirby said, and patients “should expect the same excellent care that’s been provided by this team for the many decades they’ve been in operation.” Members of the SIRA team are expected to continue servicing the center, according to the newspaper.
